lost word 2002

Had virus.
Cleared out entire commputer but saved ny files.
Now I cannot read ny word based files-contains gibberish.

There are some viruses that overwrite documents with gibberish. This kind of
damage cannot be undone. It would appear that that's what has happened to
you. I hope you had backup copies.
