Macro could not be created.

Using Word 2002 SR3 and Windows XP Pro SP2: When I open up an existing
template and attempt to create a macro, I get the message "The macro could
not be created." Same result whether I use Tools|Macros|Create or go through
the VB Editor. When I attempt to copy a macro from another template, I get
the message "The macro could not be copied." Accessing the file from another
computer on the network yields same results. However, it appears that I can
create a macro using the normal template. Macro security is set at minimum,
and template is not protected.

It doesn't usually take this long for someone to respond, so either I've
posted this query to the wrong group, stumped the experts who monitor the
group, or, as in the Jeopardy game show, simply failed to put my query in the
form of a question. Any suggestions for resolving this issue? Thanks in
advance.

As a guess, the template may be damaged so that Word can't recognize the
macro storage area within the file.

Do you have the same problem with other templates (not normal.dot, but other
existing or new ones)? If not, try using the Organizer (Tools > Templates &
Add-Ins > Organizer) to copy macros, styles, etc. from the damaged template
to a new blank template. If you need to move shortcuts, see
http://www.chriswoodman.co.uk/Shortcut Organizer.htm.

I tried several other templates and did not have a problem creating a macro
in any of them, so I'll assume that you are correct and that specific
template file is damaged. It is not a difficult one to recreate, so I guess
I'll just go that route.

Thanks again for your help.
