macro file

Is it possible to create a file of macros that word can see over a network?
If so how. TIA

I suspect you mean a shared global template containing macros. See

on moving / sharing / copying / backing-up customizations including
AutoText, AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments, toolbars, macros, etc.

I guess you will have to lead me some more. I looked @ global templates. Did
not see what I was looking for.
We have several pc's on a LAN & would like to have a common file with our
macro's. When we execute a macro we would get the macro from the common
file. Any help would be appreciated. TIA

You place a common global template (not normal.dot!) on a network disk. Upon
startup, the login script should check for a new version of this file on the
network and if there is a new one, copy it to the local folder designated by
the user as the Word startup folder. (Tools > Options > File Locations).
(You can have users share a single network folder as their startup folder,
but this will mean that you will have to chase all users off Word before
attempting to update the file.) See "Making your template a global template"
on the web page I referred you to earlier.

I need some more help. I created a ourmacro.dot file in program
files/microsoft office/office10/startup but cant figure our how to populate
the file with our macros. When I bring up word ourmacro.dot is in the macro
global template but unable to create a macro in that global template. Must
be something simple I am missing.

First, put it in the Word startup folder, not the Office startup folder!

To create or edit macros in that file you need to Open it. File > Open or
right-click on the icon and select open. Otherwise, the file is loaded in
memory and the macros are available to run, but they are not available to
edit.

First, put it in the Word startup folder, not the Office startup folder!
