MACROS

just beginning to use macros...want to get a macro to file, insert, go to the file and stop at the line to type in the name of the file to insert. It gets me that far, but then to turn off the macro I have to close the file insert window and that blows away the recording so far. Does this make any sense? the steps are insert, file, Cdrive, my documents, ...then I want it to stop so I can put the name of the file in...then insert and close. Am I asking too much of it.

Sorry, you are asking too much of macro recording, which doesn't record
keystrokes, but results. In this case, since there is no result, there is no
record.

Edit your macro and put in the following command where you want to be
inserting the file:

Application.Dialogs(wdDialogInsertFile).Show

There is much more on using and writing macros on the MVP FAQ site.
