Howdy all...

Created a mail merge between Pub 2007 tri-fold brochure (wizard created) and
Excel file...the merge works fine.
But I have two issues:

1- Pub refuses to print only page 1 to pdf - I don't want the other side
because I will bring this to a printer to have 3000 prints made...and see
#2 - I suppose I can just delete it prior to printing.

2- So I would like to output this to ONE big pdf, so I will have 3000 copies
of the same front page of brochure with different clients' names/addresses
preprinted on it. Then just have the print house use a second pdf for the
backside.

BUT...I keep getting separate pdf files and have to name them separately
(this would be crazy)...I want them all in one file...like you would print a
xxxx-page booklet. And...concatenating the pdfs, while possible would
be...uh well ridiculous :)

Tried it using Acrobat Pro and also MS pdf xps thing, didn't work.

What am I missing?

Rob, I don't have this problem merging to an Acrobat PDF. It works exactly like
it should. I did remove page two, I used a wizard. The data base I used only had
twelve names, so the PDF had twelve pages all in the same PDF.
Are you using *Merge to a new publication* in step three? Don't!
And the merge worked just fine with the Microsoft PDF add-in.

Mary...yah the mail merge is not the problem. No Im not Merging to New
Publication, but I did try it.

When you outputted those 12 pages did they end up in ONE pdf? That's what I
want, and cant figure out what I have set incorrectly.

(I love the look of having the name & addresses printed right in the
brochure...looks great)

Yes, it was one PDF. There was a issue with batch size in previous versions, but
I believe it was fixed in 2007. You might want to take a look anyway. Ed does
say it doesn't work in 2007. I did a second merge with a 44 named database, it
worked. Only one PDF was created.
I think you need to look at your settings.

Ok I'll try that later.
I can always break the merge down by zip code, which would probably be
better anyway.

tnx

Ok I finally figured it out, but it must be a bug in Pub 2007:

IF you Print to a PDF creator like Acrobat from File | Print it will create
MULTIPLE copies of the mail merge.

BUT...

If you File | Publish as PDF or XPS it will create ONE file with multiple
mail merged pages.

I did neither one of your solutions and the PDF worked correctly for me, both
the Acrobat and the Microsoft add-in. (I used the save as, not publish).
I don't think it is a 2007 bug, but I am glad you got it working.

What I decided to do is not do the mail merge and then have it printed...I'm
gonna just have flats printed 4over4 unfolded on laser safe paper. Then take
the original pub file and remove all graphics from the page with the merged
info but leave the merge fields there. Then do the merges as I need them, by
zip code or whatever, and use the flats as print stock. My brother still has
a folding machine so folding will be free.

Just thought I'd post this in case someone else needs a idea.
