Mailmerge into new publication

T

tom

When I use Mailmerge and chose "Create new Publication" the resulting
publication does NOT contain my addresses. Instead, it only shows the names
of the merge fields from the address block.

So, I thought I give the "Print to file" form the Print Merge dialog a shot.
Well, Publisher crashes and restarts every time I try it.

The reason I'm trying this is because the printer is in a different location
than I am.

Any, thoughts. Thx

What version of Windows and Publisher are you using?

What is the program that you are holding the data in you want to merge?

I am using Windows XP Pro, Publisher 2003 and the data come from an Excel
file. While using the Mailmerge Wizard the data are correctly displayed with
the preview function.

Tom, firstly, I don't think anybody has had any crashes merging with
Publisher 2003 or with anything else. Publisher 2003 is generally
magnificent and does not crash.

If you go to menu Tools > Mail & Catalogue Merge > Show Merge Results will
let you see the names of your addresses.

When Publisher crashes, what error message are you getting?

For a start, I would suggest you go to www.microsoft.com/data and download
and install the latest MDAC Components ver. 2.8 (from memory) which also
covers XP.

In addition to David's reply, what happens if you change your excel database
to a *.csv database (to do this, open your Excel database then go to File >
Save As and change the file type to comma sep value.

Now attempt the same printing and see if you get an error message. I would
be important to know what your error message is because this could be
printer driver related as well.

Sorry for the delay.

Nope, doesn't make any difference. CSV comes out the same. The thing is, I
don't get any error message.

This is what it looks when I print it :

«OWNERFIRST» «OWNERLAST»
«MAILNUMBER» «MAILSTREET»

«MAILCITY», «MAILSTATE» «MAILZIP»

Nothing is getting merged.

I now tested FinePrint. That seems to be viable solution. Not only to this
problem but also performance wise. I takes me almost 3 hours to print 500
4-page flyers with mailmerge!!

Tom you really are a problem child!

I really don't know we can help you anymore without having access to the
computer.
I can assure you, this issue you are having is totally unknown in any
version of Publisher with Merge.
I don't know if it is an error of basic operation on your behalf or what the
problem is. I am perplexed.

Three hours to print 500 4 page flyers is not to bad at all.
The only way you will do it quicker is print the page twice. Print or
photocopy what does not change, then re-print only with the Merge
information.
