Chrisssssss.........

Before I start to learn how to make my own web page, I have heard that to
put it on the web I have to pay for a domain name and who knows what else.

Can anyone tell me in easy (idiot-proof) language, if setting up a web page
really IS easy, or will it take me ages to learn and cost me a lot of money
to set it up?

Many thanks. Chrisssss.......

1. You have to pay for a domain name and renew it every year. It is
available for approx $10 per year.
2. You need a web host. There are free hosts but there sites usually
look junky and have ads. It's not bad to try out to learn, however. You
can get a real host of your own for approx $6-8 per month.
3. Honestly, a simple web page is very easy to do! You asked for
idiot-proof help. There are some sites that help kids make web pages and
you should start there. Here's 2 links to get you started:

Technically you don't need a domain, although it is much better to have one.

Host of your own is a little misleading. Paid hosting is far better than
free hosting though.

Hint: Don't use Publisher to create your website. It will make things more
difficult in the long run. Use FrontPage if you must use a design tool.

Thanks Ed,
Will try out the links you've suggested.
A friend has given me a copy of Front Page, but because the manual is 3"
thick, I am not going to take that route.
Much appreciated though. Chrissss.....

Don't let a manual scare ya. FP is pretty easy to get started with once you
understand the basics...in any case you're gonna need to learn at least the
basics of HTML.
