Married - Need to change email address

T

TPYANKS

We have a person who has an existing mailbox with lots of emails,
appointments, and tasks. She got married and wants to change her email
address to her new name without deleting anything from her existing mailbox.
What are the steps involved in doing this?

You can either rename her accounts (network, home directory, email) which is
my preference or you can export her mail to a PST and create a new account
for her.
Personally I prefer to rename the network account and work from there so
that the user does not lose her desktop, preferences, settings, etc.

My personal preference is to rename the accounts; network profile, "home"
directory, and then email. Make sure the mailbox is associated with the
correct renamed network profile (it should automatically change). You will
want to add an SMTP address to show the new name and highlight it to be the
primary SMTP address. Leave the old SMTP address for one month, make sure the
user notifies her contacts of the change. When everyone is agreeable, delete
the SMTP account with her maiden name. This way the user doesn't lose any of
her settings, preferences, desktop, etc.
You can also export her mail to a PST if you're going to create a new
mailbox for her instead.
