Max threshold for when number of tasks w/in the project plan

I have a project plan w/ over 5000 lines. When I begin moving activities
around, it deletes some of the tasks...and/or puts them in section I didn't
specify. Has this happened to anyone before? Is there a remedy? Is there a
recommended max threshold for the number of lines w/in a project plan?

Just how are you moving them around? I've never encountered Project
deleting tasks on its own. Sometimes it comes as a surprise when one
deletes a summary task forgetting that its children are tied to it and will
also be deleted at the same time. Is that what's happening with you?

Can you be a little more specific about what you're doing and what you hope
to achieve?

FYI, Project's theoretical maximum number of tasks in a project is
~1million.

I had 2 activities rolled up and moved them by placing my cursor over it and
dragged it to another location. The project plan reacted by expanding another
section that I had closed no where close to the section I was moving the
content to. Furthermore, it moved one and deleted the other.

Two activities rolled-up?? As in a summary with two subtasks and the
outline was collapsed to hide the subtasks?

2 activities... each having their own subtasks....

Example:

1st Level: Project Plan: Project XYZ
2nd Level: Activity 1
3rd Level: Sub Activity 1a
4th Level: Tasks 1-3a

3rd Level: Subactivity 1b
4th Level: Tasks 1-3b

2nd Level: Activity 2
3rd Level: Subactivity 2a
4th Level: Tasks 1-3a

3rd Level: Subactivity 2b
4th Level: Tasks 1-3b

Etc..... (additional 3rd levels & 4th Levels under this Activity 2)

I wanted to move the 2 subactivities (2a & 2b) under Activity 1, however
this is where I experienced my problem. (Note: there were more than just the
2 activities under Activity 2 (hence the etc.), thereby not leaving Activity
2 with nothing left under it.

Okay, as I understand it you want to take Sub2a and Sub2B and move them to
become subtasks of Activity 1 (becoming a total of 4 under Activity 1 in
your example) instead of Activity 2 - for simplicity collapse the 4th level
of the outline so you only see levels 1, 2, and 3, ie nothing indented under
Sub2a and Sub2b and a little plus appearing by default next to their names.
Click the task ID numbers on the far left in their lines to select them
both. Drag them to the position under Activity 1 where you want them to
appear - before !a, between 1a and 1b, after 1b, etc. They'll move out of
position as children of Activity 2 and become children of Activity 1,
remaining at level 3 in the outline structure and with all their level 4
subtasks moving along with them.
