You mean like a Real Media file? Or something else? What's the extension on
the sound file?

How did you try to insert the sound?

What exactly does "would not let me" mean -- what's the exact error message
you're receiving, or what exactly is happening when you try to insert a
sound?

What version of PPT are you using?

Ok, you may have associated WMA files with Real, but at least it's not a
*.RM file.

WMA should play in PPT, but I'm betting Real or another player has stomped
your MCI settings.

Go to http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm and
read the tutorial there. Pay extra special attention in section 3, as that
explains how to test your file using MCI Media Player (mplay32.exe), which
is what PPT uses to play WMA and other multimedia files.

Also pay special attention to what your registry entries should look like
(check the screenshots), assuming (as is explained in the tutorial) that you
are using Windows 2000/NT/XP. If you're running Win98, it's the INI files,
not the registry.
