menu bar

I have Powerpoint 2000 installed on my XP machine. When I open Powerpoint,
the File option is not on the menu bar. All the other options, i.e. edit,
view, insert, etc, are on the menu bar. I tried using the Tools>Customize
option without success. I did uninstall/reinstall the program, again w/o
success. I did install Powerpoint from my Office 2000 CD onto another XP
computer, and I was able to see the File option on the menu bar. Thank you
for your help.

"I used tools customise" depends what you mean. Try this

View > toolbars>customise

Commands tab

Scroll down to built in menus

Drag "file" onto the toolbar.

Steve I have had the same problem with the Menu Bar being completely gone in
PPT. I have tried the search-PCB files and have not found any. Are there any
other methods of restoreing them. I do know that on the other desktops on my
computer the File Menus are present. They just are not present on my Desktop.

I have done this suggested action of searching for a .pcb file and have not
located any files during the search for a .pcb, do you have any other
suggestions?

Ok, Steve. I tried the search exactly the way it was described in the web
link you sent. The search found no files containing a pcb. Any other
suggestions.

Steve, I stumbled on to something reading your link you sent me. Under My
Computer, Tools, File Types; I did find a file or folder with the name of
pcb. I deleted it without applying. I then opened power point and the menu
bar was still not present. I restored my computer and the file was back.
Should I have applied the setting before leaving and opening power point? Are
there any programs that might be effected by removing this file or folder;
even though the information that I have been given said power point will
restore or recreate the pcb file--is that true for any program that might use
a pcb file?

Steve, I again went back to MY COMPUTER, TOOS, FILE TYPES. I deleted the PCB
file, closed MY COMPUTER, Restarted my computer, opened powerpoint from the
start menu. The MENU BAR still is not present, I again restored my computer
to the previous day. I am looking for ways to resolve the issue and not just
relying on your help; however any help you can give me would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you.

Just a thought. When I create a new desktop, the menu bar is present. Is
there any way that I might be able to create a new desktop and incorporate my
files and documents into the new desktop? If that is possible I could then
delete my curent desktop and be rid of the problem, correct?

Another thought, after removing the pcb file; should i use my software disk
and repair or remove and reinstall the power point program?
