merging separate files into one

My school is planning on using Publisher 2003 next year to create the
yearbook and I was wondering if there was a feature in Publisher where I
could create multiple files and later merge them into one big file. Say staff
X has pages 1,23,45,46,etc... and staff Y has pages 2,3,4,66,54, etc... and
so on, in separate files and I want to merge them into one.

There is no easier way? I am talking about 125 pages all in separate files
across multiple computers and multiple thumbdrives...

If not, that really sucks, and we're going to have to find another solution.

Nope. Even if they were all .pdfs and you owned Acrobat, it would be a long
drawn out process.

Brady,

Try PagePlus from Serif. (I know, another cheap plug!). It has a book
feature that allows you to combine files, then do page numbering and
such. If you are familiar with Pub, the learning curve is very small.

I am currently writing a tool to do this, but I am unlikely to be able to
finish it in time for your project.

Also, if it's completely random like that copy and paste may be easier than
multiple file merges.

In addition, if you create PDFs of each page or set of pages, you can use
Adobe Acrobat to merge them together.

If you are using an outside printer, they will probably like you lots more
if you give them PDFs instead of Publisher files.

Hey, thanks for reminding me about Serif...I hadn't used it in a million years. It's pretty cool...can't beat 'free' either!

From a friend:
Publisher sort of has this feature built in, but this is SOOOOOO
Whacked, that copy and paste works better. Perhaps you could automate
this some how.

Let's say I am collaborating with 3 other Publisher users for creating a
Newsletter. Each user is responsible for a page and 1 user is
responsible for combining all the pages together into one publication.

I have a publication saved that is my "master" publication that I'm
combining the other pages from the other users with. I keep this
publication closed as I open one of the pages submitted. I have an Excel
spreadsheet with a header row label and 1 piece of data in it. I'm using
this dummy file with 1 record to trick the mail merge wizard. Using the
Mail Merge Wizard, I use the spreadsheet as the data source and at the
step in the wizard for choosing fields to insert, I do not insert ANY. I
don't need any. The mail merge wizard will happily continue. At the end
of the merge is an option to merge to the end of a publication. It will
open a file open dialog and let me choose my "master" publication.
Publisher has successfully combined 1 page from another publication for
me.

I know this is pretty far fetched, but you want to know if Publisher can
do it and as a matter of fact it CAN. :)
