I am running Outlook 2002 SP3.
I have a dilemma. Fortunately it is only a minor inconvenience and has no
functional implications in Outlook. Still, i would find it interesting to
understand why it is happening.
Every time I open Outlook, my Inbox opens with a preview pane visible. The
messages in the Inbox that are visible in the preview pane all indicate that
they are UNread (closed yellow envelope). The dilemma is that they have been
read. Clicking on 'Mark All as Read' does NOT change the icon adjacent to
the message. It still appears that they are unread. To make matters more
interesting, when I scroll through the preview pane hiding these "unread"
messages, they appear as read after coming back into view within the preview
pane (open white envelope). Also, the messages that were not visible in the
preview pane appear as read when they become visible. Therefore, the closed,
yellow envelope icon is only adjacent to the messages initially visible
within the preview pane.
Again, this happens every time I open Outlook. I do not recall when this
began happening. I could not find much searching for answers. I came across
the following link, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287609 but it did not
provide my solution. I am only using a POP3 server and not Microsoft
Exchange Server.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
