Microsoft Exchange Server - how to install

Can anyone help me understand the Microsoft Exchange Server installation
process?

I have Windows XP and Office XP (2002), and have Outlook installed and
running. However, I'd like to be able to use the features of Microsoft
Exchange Server under Outlook - e.g. sharing the calendar. When I activate
the Mail icon in the Control Panel and choose Microsoft Exchange Server, I
have to input the name of "your Microsoft Exchange Server computer. For
information, see your system administrator" - I AM THE SYSTEM
ADMINISTRATOR!!!!! It's a small home computer network.

Nowhere I have read can explain to me what this is. In the Microsoft Press
book "Microsoft Outlook Version 2002 - Inside Out", there is a lot of talk
about Microsoft Windows 2000 Server. I have no idea what all this about, or
if I even already have it!!!

I'd appreciate any help. Please do not reply by e-mail - due to junk mail
considerations, I have not attached my real e-mail address to my details
here.

Thanks so much in anticipation,
Scrutor.

Exchange is a whole seperate product (costing not insignificant dollars)
requiring an computer running Windows 2000 or 2003 server (another operating
system). I don't think you've got these in your house (although you might).
There are some sharing ideas here that don't require Exchange:

Microsoft Exchange server is not intended for typical home users -
it's an e-mail server application used by businesses big and small
(with varying degrees of success) to manage their internal and
external e-mail services. Odds are very good you would not have it
set up in your home, and would be unwilling to purchase just for a few
benefits you don't have now - as it's intended for businesses, it
isn't really priced for a home user, or made to run (well) on a
standard desktop system.

Of course, some folks out there will have it - but you'll find they
tend to be very technical in nature or work with Exchange on a day to
day basis.

I hope this information helps!

Microsoft Exchange Server is a separately sold email server system. you
need to purchase it, plus a Windows 2000/2003 Server based computer to run
it on. Info here:

This is probably overkill...it's DEFINITELY overkill in the budget
department. There are other ways of going about sharing:
