Microsoft office 2007 has stopped working

I am running Microsoft Office 2007 on my HP Vista. Microsoft office has
stopped working. When I try to open Microsoft Word it tries to run a
configuration for Microsoft Home and Office 2007 but never completes. If I
try to open a Word document an error message appears saying the document
cannot be found. When I try to open Excel it says that there is not enough
memory for the application. I have searched the posts and read a post saying
to run winword /a to check for add-ons however when did this it just got
stuck on "preparing to install". Any help would be greatly appreciated. I
am in a remote location so accessing technical support is difficult, and
unfortunately, my computer knowledge is limited.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I had the same problem week and it
never got resolved. I tried all the suggestions but nothing worked. I'm
hoping Microsoft can offer an update because this is ridiculous. Its really
frustrating!

Have you installed a locally connected compatible printer driver and set as
the Windows Default? Did you install Office and ran first time as
Administrator to complete the install?

I'm so frustrated. Word used to work just fine on my HP Vista but after an
update about 6 weeks ago, Word shuts down every time I use it (no files lost)
and I cannot open doc files sent via email. No problem with pdf, just doc.

Microsoft did something. Any chance they will undo it? I even purchased a
whole new office suite and that hasn't solved the problem.

Diagnostics doesn't find anything wrong. The one strange bit is that I
cannot get any options to open in Word Options so I can't check the Trust
Center settings that Microsoft diagnostics recommends.

Any ideas?

Update? Try running regedit, navigate to the Word Data Key and delete it.

Word DataKey

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\version number\Word\Data

Yes. And my IT guy can't figure it out either. As you can see from the
posts, I'm not the only on. My printer is an HP 3390 set up wireless and has
worked just fine for a couple years. The Word used to work fine . . .
something changed in an update!

Delete the wireless printer driver and install a local printer driver
setting it as the Windows Default. If you have the XPS driver already
installed, set that as the default and test to see if that stops the
problem.

Having a wireless printer system is mandatory for my happiness. Are you
saying that I have to be permanently tied to my printer in order for Word to
work?

Does that seem reasonable to you?

No, only that you have to have the printer *driver* installed locally.

As Suzanne says. Also, it will confirm that the wireless printer is the
cause of the problem. If it definitely is the problem, then you may be able
to work with the XPS (or other) printer driver set as the default and then
switch to the wireless printer when you need to print, switching back again
afterwards. But note that although Word needs to see a locally installed
printer driver, the fact that there are problems using the wireless printer
is indicative of a badly written printer driver and not a fault with Word.

BUT it worked fine for a long time until an upgrade. You can cast stones at
the printer all you want, but Word is not working whether or not a printer is
involved.

Any new document I create in Word shuts the whole system down - not when I'm
asking it to print.

Word interrogates the printer driver all the time: it does so as it uses
printer parameters to lay out the document. Every printer is different. If
Word works with other printers, then there is something about the wireless
printer driver that is at fault. Have you checked that you have the latest
driver and then deleted and reinstalled the printer?
