Microsoft Office Document Imaging

Some of my users are receiving "The selected file is not a valid Microsoft
Office Document Imaging file" when they try to open this one tif file and
some can open it just fine. There doesn't seem to be a correlation to the
version of Office they are using, but there might be. Any ideas?

Thank you,

DCA

Thanks for the help, but it has nothing to do with graphics file formats and
filters. All my users can open tiffs, but some can't open specific ones
sometimes.

Thank you,

Hi DCA,

Actually it can have to do with a non-Office filter availability
and version, and the use of LZW or other compression
but you didn't mention if this is Office XP
or Office 2003 (MS Office Document Imaging in 2003 has
more capabilities), and there are some TIF file parameters
that can do this, but if this is a case where an Office
Document Imaging saved graphic won't reopen then one person
had reported that this registry change made a difference.

HKEY_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MRXSmb\Parameters

Create new DWORD called:
OplocksDisabled and set it to 1
Reboot (or at least close down Office apps and restart

MS Office Document imaging.

Well, ya know, I couldn't tell if you'd searched or not.

And ya know, I don't have any information on your situation other than an
error message. You didn't bother to mention which versions of Office you're
dealing with (third hit), if your users are on a network or which version of
Windows (5th hit), what *might* be different about that one TIF file, etc.

So, given the information in the original post, my idea is that just perhaps
one of the discussion threads in that search is relevant. Sorry that idea
didn't help solve your problem.

It's nice to see that other people can do searches, too. Searches
that don't answer the question or solve the problem, either.

Hi Bob,

I found out right away that the upgrade to 2K3 was the difference, but I'll
try that reg edit sometime.

Thank you,

DCA
