Hi All,

I have recently upgraded from Office XP to Office 2003.
However, I am having a problem in that my previous
shortcut bar is no longer functioning. I can see it in
the list of available programs. But when i click on it,
the familiar horizontal bar on the right hand side of the
screen doesnt appear. I have reinstalled Office 2003,
restarted the machine, and evemn performed a Detect &
Repair function. Nothing seems to have worked,

Any ideas anyone?

Many Thanks
A T Johnson

Office 2003 doesn't include the Office Shortcut Bar. You'll need to
reinstall the bar from your OfficeXP CD if you'd like to use it.

Has Microsoft put forward any explanation for the omission of the
Shortcut Bar from Office 2003? If it was a 'good idea' for O.XP then
it surely remains a good idea for inclusion in O.2003 - and there's
evidence that many people use it. 'Upgrading' from O.XP to O.2003 costs
a significant sum of money and it seems unreasonable that facilities
supplied earlier should be removed.

I'm afraid this issue has been discussed to death in several previous
threads. (See http://groups.google.com/groups?q="office+shortcut+bar").

Short answer: It wasn't a "good idea" for O.XP, and there are far better
ways of accomplishing the same tasks (use WinXP QuickLaunch, use 3rd party
apps, etc).

Not everyone agrees with that statement, but unfortunately, such discussions
at this point are moot. All I can recommend is that you explore the
alternatives, or install the XP OSB.

Sorry.

I too was initially annoyed that Office 2003 did not have the shortcut bar.
I am now glad because its absence made me think about what shortcuts I
really need.

I added them to the Quick Launch bar and, after a few daze, I now believe
this is a better set up.
It just takes a bit of adjusting.
