Microsoft Outlook closes when I try and open (double-click) a Contact

When I click on the Contacts section of MS Outlook (2000) and try and
view the detail of one of the contacts, Outlook closes immediately with
no warning.

Also, if I click in the "Tools" menu when I have the Contacts section
open, the Outlook closes immediately in the same way.

Any ideas anyone?
