I am a novice computer owner/operator. I just purchased
a computer XP operating system. I received offfice
standard as a gift and loaded this on my system. I'm
believe I should have loaded Office XP. Am I correct?
Now what do I do, I'm sure the store will not take back
the used software

Office Standard /what/?! You don't have to match the Office Suite to the OS,
you know.

The office software package and the operating system (XP, in your case), are
seperate items, though they are named somewhat similiar.

If you have Windows XP, and have purchased any of the office products now
being offered by major retailers (Office XP, Office 2002, Office
2003)--it'll work fine.

Install and enjoy it !

There is no such thing as "Office 2002" - '2002' is the version given to
products in the XP suite when purchased separately.
