Microsoft Word 12.2.0 refuses to open under Snow Leopard

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I've recently Installed Snow Leopard. When I try launching MS Word, it shows me the startup screen and then "Optimizing font menu performance" and that's as far as it goes.

Any suggestions?

Hi Czet,

open Font Book, select all your fonts, then click on Edit>Resolve
Duplicates. Once you've done that, restart your Mac to clear out the font
caches. This is a known side-effect of installing Snow Leopard.

Dear Michel,
I spent all day long lealing with this problem. I read your post a few moments ago. I resolved duplicates of all fonts in the Font Book, and restarted the computer. It didn't help. What else can I do?

In case the above link does not work:

The article lists steps to try like Safe Boot to determine where the problem
is located.

Running Font Book (OS X application) showed me the conflicting fonts, but it
was only after I found and deleted a font with an extension of .dfont was I
able to resolve the problem.
Your resolution may differ, of course, but my solution:
- I found a Lucida Grande font with .dfont extension.
- deleted the font, but could not empty the trash as the font was in use.
- restarted iMac and then emptied the trash.
- restarted machine again and was able to run MSOffice.

I hope this helps you.
