Microsoft Word 2003 - File Conversion

I recently installed the File Conversion utility to allow Word to open .docx
files. Now, when I attempt to open files created in Word 2003 (by me) a year
or two ago, I get a "File Conversion" window prompting me to select the
encoding that makes my document readable. None of the selections provided
will work.

I have many documents that I can no longer open and I need help.
