Milestone text on Gnatt chart

Hello,

The milestone diamond symbol displays date of the milestone. I want to
display a label showing what this milestone task is together with the date.
How can I accomplish this? I am using Version 2000 of MS Project. Thank you.

Athena,
You have a couple of choices. You can use a spare text field for your
label and put it opposite the date. For example, let's say the date is
displayed to the right of the milestone. You could display the label on
the left of the milestone.

A second option is to combine the date and label together in a spare
text field. Then display that field where ever you want around the
milestone.

By the way, in case you don't know, Gantt bar labels are set up under
Format/Bar Styles vai the "text" tab at the bottom of the Bar Styles
window.

Hope this helps.

Thank you. I selected Text1 for the left field for the Milestone type
task bar. But I do not know where to enter the value of teh text21 field?

To get the data into the Text1 field you can use a formula.
I am not sure what you want the "label" to be, but suppose it is the same
as the Task Name.
Then the data that you want in Text1 is the Task Name joined
(concatenated) to the Start date.
Insert the Text1 column into the Entry Table (temporarily, don't leave it
there after this is done).
Right click on the heading of the column.
Select Customise Fields from the menu.
Rename the Text1 as, say, Special Label.
Click the Formula button and use this formula:
[Name]&" "&[Start]
Then in Bar Styles format the style to show this Text1 field in or
somewhere around the bar.
