Missing com add in

Got a user who gets an error about a missing addin across the board no
matter what Office app they start from Word to Outlook. I have checked for
add ins in Outlook and cannot find anything that shouldn't be there and see
nothing in Word pointing to the problem either. the user uninstalled and
reinstalled which didn't fix the problem which was my guess. I assume the
add ins are in the registry but where?

I will have to get the customer to send me a screen shot as I haven't seen
it lately so forgot the name. I know it refers to a missing dll of some
sort.

WinXP Pro
Office 2003 Pro

Fastest way to fix this is to rename extend.dat to old and then reopen
Outlook. Otherwise, you will need to supply the name of the .dll file for
us to help.

ok when launching any Office app the gets an error "mpoai9.dll is not a
valid Office Add-in".

It seems to point to a Geography folder, is that a MapPoint add in? Even if
it is I would prefer to just delete the registry entry.

Happens with all Office apps though not just Outlook. I posted the dll and
error message, thinking MapPoint problem.

My fix may NOT be for everyone. BE CAREFUL as this deals with th
registry. My scenario
I had installed mappoint with add-in also. I then uninstalled mappoin
and starting getting the dreaded mpoai9.dll error on office products
No fix found so I did this: CAUTIO
I ran regedt32 and searched against MY COMPUTER for "mpoai9". M
paticular machine found 10 instances of it. In each case I exporte
the registry key BEFORE deleting so I could recover if side effect
crop up. I then deleted each key where this dll is referenced. On
being a GUID key and the rest being for outlook, visio, excel
ect..... This completely removed my error on office products. Belo
are the keys I removed, but NOT to be used as an exact guide as t
what to look for. If your not used to using the registry I cautio
you strongly about doing so. This worked for me, but may cause il
side effects for you
Keys remvoed in MY system were
