missing file, service pack for Onenote

Dee

I downloaded the microsoft fullfile .exe to install the sr1 for Onenote 2003.

I am getting a message to insert my Onenote product disk. Do not have as
came preinstalled from manufacturer. I searched the recovery disks for this
file, and not there.

Isn't the full file update supposed to have all necessary files. What do I
do???

Installation Error: File not found
A required installation file SKU1A1.CAB could not be found
original installation source required.

What brand is your machine? If it came preinstalled the manufacturer is
supposed to provide media for the product.

it is an Averatec C3500 tablet PC. I was pretty upset when I called them to
have them send me the software. They said they do not have it to send and I
can reinitialize my system to get Onenote back. I would think this is
illegal for them to do. They said it was because I installed sr2 for winxp
prior to intalling sr1 for Onenote. They said that "microsoft" created this
problem by not having their sr work well together. They told me to install
the trial version on my tablet. This sounds fishy to me. Seems they should
be able to provide the oem for Onenote, or get heavily fined from Microsoft.

I called the pc vendor again. They had a fix. Uninstall Onenote, Install
Onenote Trial; But use the prod key that came with the pc, not the prod key
they give you to run trial. This worked, as far as I know, I have Onenote,
with the SR1.

Dee, not to confuse people, but you're speaking about Service Pack 1 with
OneNote, known as SP1, correct? The same is true for the Windows XP Pro
operating system on your system, which is updated now to XP SP2 and Tablet
PC Edition 2005.

I guessed as much. Averatec is usually the brand when somebody tells
the tale you told. The reality is that you need to have the OneNote
install media available when you install SP1 -- Averatec isn't doing us
any favors by not providing it.

It isn't "just" Averatec, but several OEMs used the same formula
(mistakenly) in setting up their recovery CD/DVD format. From
http://www.microsoft.com/office/onenote/prodinfo/faq.mspx :
If your copy of OneNote 2003 came preinstalled on a new computer, you should
be able to reinstall OneNote 2003 from the recovery CD or media that came
with your computer. Please follow the instructions on your recovery CD or
media to reinstall OneNote 2003.

Or, If you have lost your OneNote product CD, please contact Microsoft Help
and Support and provide proof of purchase to obtain another product CD.

You may have a product ID number in the documentation which came with your
Tablet PC, or it may be on the bottom of the Tablet on a separate label. If
the OEM installed a 60-day trial version, you will need to purchase the full
product.

The other thing you may try to do is to locate the original installation
files on the hard drive. They may be located in the C:\OneNote2003.temp
directory, or a OneNote *.msi file (I don't recall exactly where at the
moment).
