Missing Office Icons in Program Group for Office 2003

I have a user that keeps losing his Excel icon from Start -> Programs -> MS
Office. I have done a "detect and repair" to fix it in the past; but it
happened again this week. So I have two questions - first, what is causing
the icon to disappear from the program group? And second, is there an
alternative way to restore the icon to the program group, other than "detect
and repair"? I have pinned Excel to the user's start menu, so at least they
have that.
