Missing Table of Contents

Recently, the Table of Contents in my document (as well as links and
matematical equations) have 'gone missing' from my document. In their
place is a string of characters (i.e. {TOC \o \"1-3" \h \z \u} for my
TOC) and I am not able to view them in any of the views. I have tried
to look at as many options as I can but I am still somewhat new to
Office 2007 and have not learned all of the tricks yet. I would
greatly appreciate any advise that any one could share with me.
Thanks in advance, Dean

Thanks JoAnn, but I am not having problems with creating a TOC, but
rather some viewing preference has been inadvertantly changed in Word
so that I am not able to view the TOC, as well as hyperlinks and
mathematical equations in my document. By using another machine and an
older version of Word the document appears correctly, but not on my
machine (Vista, Office 2007).

You are seeing the field codes rather than the results - ctrl+a (to select
all) -> right click -> toggle field codes.

Sorry - I assumed that lesson would tell you how to create the TOC and view
the field codes. Did you try Alt+F9?

Perfect on both accounts. Thanks Lucy and JoAnn for your help!
