MS Fastcounter

B

Beverly

Hi, I use FP2000, I also use Microsoft Fastcounter. I have
been told that showing the counter is unprofessional for a
website. My question is, how do I hide the counter? I
still want to use it (I find it very useful) but I do not
want people coming to my site to see it. Is this possible?

Thank you for your help

If you're using the counter to count visits to your site, why don't you see
what sort of statistics packages your hosting service makes available? Many
of them include WebTrends or something like that.

I have done it by putting several screens of blank lines beneath the page
content and then inserting the counter. It is very unlikely that users will
scroll down to see the counter.

MS Fastcounter is a service provided by b2central. So, any questions
regarding the counter should be directed to the source.

Peter.

Make a 1 pixel by 1 pixel gif image and use it as the custom hit counter image.
Much easier and you don't have to worry about people scrolling.

That is a matter of opinion.
I have seen sites with hit counters that use a custom designed hit counter image that I thought was
kind of neat.

I don't think the problem is with the appearance of the counters. It's that
most people know the counts are easily faked and so the number dislpayed is
meaningless.

In another post you mentioned a 1x1 pixel GIF as a way to hide a counter.
Can you be more specific?

For use with the FrontPage hit counter when you don't want people to see the hit counter:
Create a gif 1 pixel wide and 1 pixel high. Color it the background color of the web page.
Save it as custom.gif ( actually any name you want ) and import it into your web.
Insert the hit counter, select custom image and enter the path to custom.gif and then click OK or
Apply

The hit counter will then display the 1 x 1 image which can't be seen if it's colored properly.
Then to read your hits open the pagename.htm.cnt file in the _private folder on the live site using
notepad with the web opened in FrontPage
