MS OFFICE 2000 PRO DIFFERENT VERSION INVALID DATA1.MSI?

When trying to update MS Office 2000 SR-1 Professional to SP3 it claims the
DATA1.msi is invalid. Although if the original installation CD may have
been just MS Office 2000 Professional not the SR-1, the newer Version with
SR-1, is still consider MS Office 2000 Professional. Could there be a
registry key that could be edited on the target machine to avoid having to
update the full Office version in order to update to SP3? This does cost a
lot of time when having to update more then one machine.

Hi, lmendoza,

You need to provide the original installation media.

You could try to use the following patch, which mitigates the need for the
original CD in many cases where you're already up to SR-1:

835220 - Office 2000 Update: February 10, 2004:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;835220

Just been down this road my self. Found that my Office 2K was
installed with a test disk not the normal install disk we use. Why
can't the Office lot at M$ do their service packs the same as the
Windows lot and how every one else does theirs..

Hi, Mutlley,

They've heard this message and are working on changes to the update
mechanism.

.
I am having the same problem only I'm at home on my
personal computer and not on any server at work. If you
find an answer, I would love to know it. I will reply if
I get one sooner. SO FRUSTRATED... Michael
