Go to Email Accounts. Select your affected account(s) and click Change. Click
on more settings, then the Advanced Tab. Then click the checkbox for "This
server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)". See if that helps or not, let
me know.

I tried this but am still getting the error message do you have any more
ideas please?

This may be a duplicate post..I've never posted a reply before.
I had this same error message with Windows Live Mail, but my outlook 2007
worked fine. AT&T and I found the following fix that is linked below. See
thread #7... it instructs to delete a digital ID. When I did this it worked.
All other previous attempts at different suggestions (liked listed by others
here) did not work. See the following link:

So the problem really was with OneCare.

when i open outlook i choose the profile i need it then opens up and on the
bottom it says preparing to send and receive and then gives the send /receive
error
