i received an email with chinese message. it shows unreadable characters in
my Outlook 2003.
but my friend can read it from his Outlook 2003.
what could be the cause?

Do you have the Chinese character set installed on your machine? I get
prompted to download foreign character sets when I view a message with a new
set (that I don't have)

Hmmm, check the International settings here in Outlook: Tools menu > Options
