When deleting a resource from the assigned task, it gives this message, "The
selected item has some actual value". What to do, if i want to remove the
resource, do i need to care for these values. Please keep in mind i am a new
user of this product and still learning it fully.

Need advice

Hi,

You should only care if you keep track of total work or total cost.
Since I do neither, I never care about the message.

Hello Nadia,

To add to Jan's response and pose a question or two of my own. When you
receive the message about the items has "actuals" that says that you
have supplied tracking data (actual work, actual duration etc) to the
task.

So, if you are removing the resource from the task, did the resource
really perform any work on the task?
If the resource didn't really perform any actual work, I would set the %
complete or % work complete to zero, make sure you remove the actual
start then remove the resource. You shouldn't get the question and can
remove the resource without losing any actual data.

If the resource did perform work and the work is complete, why should
you worry about removing the resource? If they did the work and the
work is done, I'd just leave the resource alone.

If the task is not complete, will someone else be taking over the
remaining part of the task and finishing it? In that case, you most
likely want to replace the resource ("old resource") with the resource
("new resource") who will finish the task. If that is what you need,
select the task and click the Assign Resources button in the Standard
toolbar. In the list of resources, select the resource ("old resource")
that you want to remove from the task and click the Replace button to
show the Replace Resource dialog box. Select the resource {"new
resource") who will replace the first one ("old resource") and click the
OK button. That will set the remaining work for the "old resource" to
zero and shift the remaining work to the "new resource".

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
