MS Project 2007 and MS Access

I just installed a copy of MS Project 2007 Standard and discovered much to my
chagrin that it no longer saves in .mdb format. What happened? In as much
as I regularly use that feature in earlier versions, what are my options now?

The easiest way is to save down to 2003 format, open in P2003 and then export
to Access.... hmm, sort of defeats the purpose of your investment.

P2007 will open an existing Access Database and nearly any ODBC compliant
data source, that is good news.

At this time, your best bet is to save the file out to XML format. Believe
it or not, XML can be imported to Access in both 2003 and 2007. The XML
Schema for Project 2007 and Project 2003 files is a bit different to
accomodate the new features in P2007. Access will assist you in developing
the necessary mapping.

You may want to post to the Access group to see if someone can give you
additional help importing XML to Access since the solution will be pretty
robust.

It''s software; it''s not allowed to win.

Jim,

Thanks. I had pretty much concluded the same thing, but the confirmation
was most helpful. It's a tad frustrating to now have to learn and apply XML
when the earlier versions of Project provided me an automatic mechanism and,
most importantly, and a common database.
