Project Server questions should be posted in the Project Server forum...
As to your question, there was one a long time ago but it was so
generic, it would have taken longer to clean the plan up that to
install Project Server.
What is a vanilla install? For home use to try it out on a desktop PC?
A small company with one server? two servers? more?
Hint: If you know how to install MS Project Server, it takes 4 hours
in any configurtion you can think of. If you never installed Project
Server, it will take you at least 4 weeks+ because you will install
it incorrectly at least half a dozen times.
What!? Only 4 hours? Okay, That's like saying I just installed
"Windows 2003 Server". Now you have to configure it so people
can acually use the server, like permissions and such, right?
Well, MS Project is a bit harder to do...
If you (a) are not a "good" project manager, (b) never used MS
Project, and (c) don't know the difference between "Work" and
"Duration", your post-installation tasks will be next to useless.
Quickly, here are the tasks (2 server minimum recommended)
and this is no means complete!
4 hours:
- Install Windows Server 2003
- Install IIS6
- Configure IIS6
- Install Decision Support Objects
- Load Service Packs
4 hours:
- Install WIndows Server 2003
- Install SQL 2000
- Install Analysis Services
- Load Service Packs
4 hours:
- Install SharePoint Services
- Install MS Project Server
XX weeks:
- interview your users: PMs, Users,
??weeks training
??weeks (test):
- Configure PWA
- Configure Enterprise Global
- Load Enterprise Resource Pool
??weeks training
??weeks (pilot):
- Re-Configure PWA
- Re-Configure Enterprise Global
- Re-Load Enterprise Resource Pool
??weeks training
??weeks (limited rollout):
- Re-Re-Configure PWA
- Re-Re-Configure Enterprise Global
- Re-Re-Load Enterprise Resource Pool
??weeks training
??weeks (rollout):
- Re-Re-Re-Configure PWA
- Re-Re-Re-Configure Enterprise Global
- Re-Re-Re-Load Enterprise Resource Pool

Have you read all of the problems these people are
having on this forum?
Avoid their errors!!!
Have a PRODCUTION system
Have a PRE-PRODUCTION system
- Replicate problems and tinker with settings here
so PROD doesn't need to go down each time a
problem occurs.
Have a TEST system
- Hear the horror stories on going to the next SP?
If you have a test system, you can try before
you move *any* SP to PROD.
Again, timeframe is soley dependant on the knowledge
and skill level of the installer for "pre-", "during" and
especially all of the "post-" installation of the product.
Thanks...
