MS Publisher 'error message'

I have MS Publisher 98 and 2000 versions loaded on my laptop.
I am unable to open a received .pub file and get this
error message "The file is locked because it is currently
being used by another program. Please close the other
program and then try opening or importing the file
again." No other program is/was opened at the time I get
the error message. I've had the file saved as MS
Publisher 98 and get the same error message... the same
goes for MS Publisher 2000. So, how do I overcome this
problem so that I may read the file documents?

Try restarting your system. I think that will solve your problem but I can't
help you in respect to what caused it to happen in the first place. I've had
it happen and a restart generally does the trick.

There is the old standby, try in safe mode. Try the ctrl+alt+delete, see what
applications maybe running and close them down. Check the properties of the file to
see if it is read only. Disable your printer, could be the Publisher file is looking
for a specific driver.

Thanks but I'm not certain I may be able to do as you suggest since I'm on a
network and the available printers are shared. However, I will try shutting
the computer off, then rebooting to see if that will work (didn't think of
that since we are told to leave our computers running for auto updates during
the night).

Thanks,
Bob

Maybe a network lock, if file was create on another network puter?
Just a guess.
