MS Visio Versions

We just installed an asset mgmt polling service that returns the
version numbers of Visio products, but not the associated MS Office
year - example - I am running Office 2003 and my Visio version is 11.

I have seen emails and web notices that confirm the following:
MS Office 2007 = Visio 12
MS Office 2003 & 2005 = Visio 11
MS Office 2002 = Visio 10

What Office versions contained Visio Version 8 and 6?

Thanks!

There is a list at http://visio.mvps.org/History.htm

Visio 2000 was version 6 and Visio 2002 is version 10. There was no version
7, 8 or 9.

Visio 2000 was released before Visio acquired Microsoft and Visio 2002 was
the first real version released by Microsoft. Microsoft did release a
rebranded version of Visio 2000 with some bug fixes, but the major version
number did not change. Microsoft changed the version number to 10 so that it
would be in lie with the other Office products like Word and Excel.

The current version of Visio, Visio 2007 is version 12. The next version
will be version 14.

I should have pointed out that the version number is assigned at the very
beginning and anyone who looks at or works on the beta associate the version
number with the product rather than the name that is assigned just before
release.

There has also been confusing issues with the product names. For example VEA
2003 was released just before Visio 2003, but it contains a copy of Visio
2002. The issue continued when VEA 2005 was released and contained Visio
2003, not a special new version of Visio calld Visio 2005. So even though we
should use the product name, it is sometime easierto slip back to the
version number.

(It also looks like it is time for me to update that table.)
