MSOCache folder on both drives?

Gordon

I have Office 2007 installed (no other). My HDD is split into two
partitions - C for OS and apps and D for data.
I find I have two MSOCache folders, one on C at a size of 308 MB and one on
D at a size of 290 MB.
Why two, and can I get rid of one of them?

Thanks for the link - two things. Firstly the kb article is only for office
2003, and secondly, when I go to Disk Cleanup for either partition, as
described in the kb article, it doesn't find the MSOCache file.
Does this mean that Office 2007 does it differently from Office 2003?

Hi Gordon,

Yes, Office 2007 does things differently. The \MSOCache folders are no longer optional, nor relocatable. They're installed on the
drive where the app is installed. The 'Disk cleanup' links are also removed for Office 2007 to keep from accidentally deleting it.

Check in Add/Remove Programs to see what 2007 series products may be installed and if they're all to the same drive.

thanks for that - the ONLY thing that I've done is to move my Outlook Data
files to the second partition - would that be the reason I have a second
MSOCache folder on that partition? (The install of Office 2007 Standard was
a default install - on the C drive...)

Hi Gordon,

Moving the Outlook data file shouldn't cause that. How old is the computer? It's possible that a trial edition came preinstalled
perhaps?

Did you check Add/Remove Programs to check for other 2003 or 2007 versions?

If you look in each of the MSOCache folders what .MSI files are included and are they in 'all users' or in the profile for specific
user subfolders of \MSOCache?

Clean install of XP ten days ago with clean install of office 2007
Standard....which I've just noticed has actually solved the problem! Duh!
There now is only ONE MSOCache folder, on C drive.....
