Msocache vs. installer directory

Steve

Can anyone clarify why the office 2003 install puts the setup files in the
msocache directory and not in the installer directory. I have setup sms
install Office 2003 and I thought all msi files leave a copy on the installer
directory.

The Local Install Source (aka LIS or MSOCache) tends to be a cached copy of
the installer files so that when the product patches, needs repair, add a
feature, .etc is called upon, it happens w/out asking the user to insert the
original installation media.

PS - Office 2003 is not the only product to use this folder. You will also
notice that Visio, Frontpage, Project, and even the viewers will place data
here.
