Hi,

Is there a limit to the number of project that can use a resource pool?

Also, is there a limit to the number of projects that can be added to a
project?

Thanks,

David

Hi,

Effectively there is no limit. However, once you get to over 50 or so, the
chance of a corruption by some PM renaming, moving or over-writing a .mpp
will be great. Ditto with inserted projects into other projects. Links are
very corruption prone and once you get too many or if any PM renames, moves
or over-writes a linked .mpp file then corruption will happen sooner or
later: it's when not if.

If you have a lot of files, then investigate using macros to create the
reports you need or start looking at solutions such as Project Server.

Hi Rod,

If we remove old projects as they are completed the number will likely
remain under 50 but I have already encountered one corruption and would like
to do whatever I can to avoid them.

What are you recommending with VBA? Using a program to insert each project
into a master project file? This doesn't seem like it would solve any
problems related to the resource pool so I am guessing you are thinking of
something different. Perhaps have the program remove all projects from the
resource pool and then add them back in again each time it runs?

I'll check out Project Server as well for a possible future purchase.

David
