MSP 2007: problem with tasks splitting when Task Type = Fixed Dura

M

Mark Edmonds

i1. Open MSP
2. Create 2 activities (task 1 & task 2), set both durations to 10 days and
link them Finish-to-Start
3. Set the Task Type of both activities to Fixed Duration (highlight both
activities, shift-F2, Advanced tab, Task Type) then click OK
4. Reduce the duration of task 1 to 3 days and you will see that task 2
splits, keeping the end date fixed (same happens for all successive
activities). I don't see the problem when the Task Type is set to Fixed Work
or Fixed Units.

Has anyone else seen this problem (only seen in 2007 Beta).

Hi Mark,

Welcome back :).

Yes, I can reproduce initially. But forcing a recalculation (F9 or some
other process which forces Project to recalculate) seems to solve the
problem - the split is removed and the successor task moves as expected.

Certainly not a fix -- but if you are going to post this as a bug, may
be useful information to include with the post.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

You're right Julie - I missed that one. Good catch. I checked my settings and
calculation is set to automatic, so looks like it's a bug.

Will be posting this one later too. Thanks for everything.

You're most welcome Mark and thanks for the feedback.

Please continue posting with other issues as you like. I believe there
are several folks who frequent the project newsgroups who are playing
around with 2007 Beta and this is a great way to share information and
get several "testers."
