Multiple monitor usage

I have a Lenovo laptop with Vista Home Premium.

Has anyone tried to operate with multiple monitors? Can't seem to have an
arrangement that allows the laptop monitor to have a different appearance
than the other monitor.

Had no problems working with 2 monitors when using XP.

Any suggestions?
