I am working in Word 2003
I need to line up Greek on one side of the page, Hebrew on the other.
The Greek is controlled by left tabs, and needs to be able to be indented at
a variety of levels.
The Hebrew is controlled by right tabs, and also needs to be able to be
indented at a variety of levels.
What seems to be happening with the Hebrew is that the program is checking
to see whether there is enough space between the right tab and the margin to
fit the line of text. When there is not (because I want the text to end, not
to begin at the tab stop on the right side of the page) it puts the whole
text on the next line. It also blithely ignores my multiple tab-stops,
carefully set. They show up on the ruler, but not in the behavior of the
text on the page.
When I try to fix things, I wind up with my English-language text in greek
or Hebrew characters all over the page, and in one case irretrievably. I
could reformat it as Greek or Hebrew, but Times New Roman came up as little
boxes.
What's happening and how can I fix it? I suspect I must have some
auto-format option turned on and I've got to get it turned off or I will
flunk this course and go crazy.
Thanks.
