My messages are duplicating themselves - Why?

I have set up Outlook 2000 with rules to move all messages
to different folders based on either sender or content.
Somehow copies of certain messages end up in more than one
folder. How is this possible? Doesn't moving a message
remove it from the inbox? How can I stop this from
happening?
