My search function in outlook is not working.

In the past I could search my emails by using one name or word. Now I don't
get any results whatsoever to my searches. I have had a tech guy out to the
house twice. He has not been able to solve the issue. Any ideas? I think I
may have inadvertantly turned off or on a function that disabled the search...

which version of outlook?
when did it work and what happened just prior to it not working?
