My Tasks Available Fields

We are trying to create Enterprise Custom Fields to avoid multiple occurances
of the same custom fields. However, when we go to create a new customized My
Tasks view under My Work, and choose the View Type of My Work under in the
Name and Type to place it under My Work where it belongs to be available as
an available view for My Tasks, we are unable to get the newly created
Enterprise Custom Fields to show up in the listing of Available Fields under
Table and Fields. Not sure what option we are not choosing or doing wrong so
posting here for assistance or to ask if anyone else has run into this and
what they may have done. Either way, we cannot seem to get data show up in
customized fields we are trying to create in My Task views.

If your custom enterprise Task field contains a formula, it does not appear
as an available field for the My Tasks page. Does that explain your
situation? Let us know and we will try to help.

Dale,

Thanks for responding.

Actually, no. The fields we are adding are basically just text fields.
What we are trying to do is just create customized fields in enterprise as we
are working toward elements (fields and so on) being common across mutliple
projects. Unfortunately however, the data with which we populate our fields
for each project over in the MS Project instance does not seem to want to
come back over after publishing. It seems to us like it would be the
simplest thing but evidently it isn't for us. :)

Above that, we were also wanting to create a custom view under "My Work" for
our designers containing many of the same custom fields we were creating as
mentioned above. But when we go to choose from the available fields for the
View Type of 'My Work', none of the fields we added in enterprise are there.
Even further is the field for 'Duration', which we think would/should be
available across the board for just about any table is not there either. We
also made sure that we added "My Tasks' to 'Categories this view belongs to'
so that it would show up.

Anyway, it is probably something real simple that we are overlooking and
all, but (for whatever reason) we have yet to arrive at an answer for yet.

Thanks again for the help.

Sorry I wasn't more specific on if the field's custom attributes contained a
formula. The answer is no, but when we created the fields we were thinking
that it was neither a Lookup Table or a Formula, really. So we left the
radio button as 'None'.

Is your organization current on Service Packs and Cumulative Updates for
your Project Server 2007 system? Service Pack 2 is the latest SP and I
believe the latest Cumulative Update is February 2010. I ask this because
in our Project Server 2007 system, I can see the Duration field as an
available field for a custom My Tasks view, and I can see a custom
enterprise task Text field as an available field as well. Let us know and
we will try to help.

Dale,

Good question. We are currently working with our IT group to make sure we
are current on any SPs and Cum Updates but haven't heard back yet. Anyway,
yeah...we are currently working on that end so I will let you know if that
did the trick.

Thanks again,

Murray

You are more than welcome for the help, my friend. Let us know what you
find.

Dale,

Just to follow through with you, the update to the SPs and Cumulative
Updates did not fix the issue I posted here...although it definitely did fix
a few other issues we had so either way it was obviously a good thing.

That said, I researched my posted issue further, and low and behold...I
found a previous response to this same issue that you previously posted and
had referred that person to another helpful blog that basically explained it
was simply a matter of them editing their custom field used in the My Tasks
view by choosing 'Roll down, unless manually specified' in the 'Calculation
for Assignment Rows' section in the Enterprise Custom Field Definition under
Server Settings.

Anyway, thanks again for being so helpful answering my post and someone
else's previous post on the same issue becuase by following the trail, I
found the answer I was looking for and my custom fields now work as they
should.
