Naming of the dimensions and time scales....

Hi! We have a serious problem: we are using a national version of ms project
2007 (german version). All the dimension eg. in duration are displayed in
german terms like monate etc.. However, we need to report in english. Thus,
how can we change any settings to get all dimensions displayed in english??
In the moment, duration is a problem and the time-scale in gannt graphs. All
the name of the months are displayed in german and we could not find any
settings to change this or define or own customized terms. Even changing the
international settings in windows to US did not affect any phenomenons in
project.... What to do? Are there any settings in the registry file available
to change this behaviour? Maybe using the english version of project would
solve our problem. Nevertheless, this would cause a huge loss of time,
because -as far as I know- we cannot install another office 2007 package
after the BT2TR was installed....
And another question: we attempted to use the Gannt vision 2007 instead of
the gantt graphic in project to solve this problem. But this is even more
worst: Independent from any settings in project, in visio2007 gantt, duration
is ALWAYS displayes as days (rsp in germany "tagen"). How to change those
settings in Visio 2007?? Are there visual reports for project 2007 available
to export directly gannt to visio 2007? It was mentioned in the documentation
that project and visio 2007 are able to run 3D gannt graphs. How to do this...
So, a lot of questions concerning the customization of national dimensions
in project.... Thanks for help!! Franz

Hi Franz,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

My, you're in trouble! As far as I'm aware, you will need the English
version of Project. What alarms me is that you appear to be using a beta
version on your production project, something that Microsoft makes quite
clear that you should never do. I can only suggest you uninstall 2007 and
then purchase the English version of 2003 until 2007 if formally released.
You will get no official support from Microsoft with a beta version.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

hi, thanks for reply. It is not a production project, just one to try out the
new software features. I solved the problems with the language settings by
using the englsih version on another machine, but this is still
unsatisfactory for the future that the user has to have different machines to
use different language settings.
But: what about the promised Gantt export (and 3D gantt export) feature from
project to visio? I can just find some visual reports for visio which are ALL
based on pivot tables and a basically the same, just with slide variations.
Did I miss something?? Thanks again! Franz

Hi Franz,

That make me feel better :) I know that I can have different versions of
Project on one PC as I have 5 versions running. However, I've never tried,
but you could, to have a German version and an English version on the same
PC and then you can open the project in one or the other. I'd be interested
to see if this would work, as I'm not sure how the Global.mpt would cope.
Maybe in different drives rather than different directories on the same
drive.

I don't use Visio, so I can't give info on that. Maybe someone else can
pick up that tab?
