NAS Access

I realize this may be an issue with the Netgear NAS but I'm also aware of an
issue with WebDav. Although the NAS is a "WebDavable" device, I'm not using
it. With all that out of the way, simple put:

I can access a share on the NAS via IE. The username/password challenge is
successful.

I cannot access the same share via OneNote. The identical username/password
challenge is simply not accepted. The username/password screen just keeps
coming back with a blanked PW box no matter how many times I enter the PW.

Any thoughts?

TIA

Which model of the NAS box are you using? I went to their website but they
don't call out which of their servers support NAS.

The model I'm using is: Infrant ReadyNAS NV+ running firmware RAIDiatorâ„¢
v3.01c1-p6 [1.00a034]. I should also add I can "skip past" the username/pw
challenge but the notebook doesn't open, that is, it just seems to want to
start a new one. Guess this isn't unexpected given the logiin failure.

I've done more research on OneNote across the Internet and it appears to
require either SharePoint or a webDAV "server". The ReadyNAS does have an
"Enable WebDAV support" checkbox. However, further research provided this
insight:
"Unfortunately in XP, OneNote notebooks on plain WebDAV servers won't be
supported. The reason being XP issues unauthenticated OPTIONS, PROPFIND, and
MOVE WebDAV requests even when the client is authenticated. Because these
requests fail on secured DAV servers, OneNote fails to sync." (
http://blogs.msdn.com/descapa/archive/2007/02/20/follow-up-to-webdav-support-with-onenote-2007.aspx)
Now I don't know anything about OPTIONS, PROPFINDs, as the post quoted deals
w/Apache and Vista but I would assume it applies to the ReadyNAS which is
Linux based. Thus, it appears that only SharePoint and maybe some kind of
nonApache equivalent of
LimitExcept OPTIONS PROPFIND>
AuthType Digest
AuthName DAV
AuthUserFile conf/digest.passwd
require valid-user
</LimitExcept>
is the only current way to share a notebook over the Internet. (There may be
one other option using some 3rd party VPN service.) Well, sorry to say, this
isn't information at my fingertips in any easy, non-geek way and IMHO
represents a serious shortcoming of an otherwise fine product.

OK, I think we're getting somewhere. I just upgraded to Netgear's latest
firmware and the userid/password challenge issue appears to be fixed. Using
their webDAV add-on, I can get to the shares containing OneNote notebooks but
cannot sync. This is apparently now a fairly well known problem per
http://blogs.msdn.com/descapa/archive/2 ... -2007.aspx and
http://www.borlik.net/blog/archives/000157.html
So it would seem that I will now join the ranks of those hoping for a fix
soon! Thanks for the help.
P.S. I sure wish I could edit some of this stuff as I've made a posting
mess...

Just wanted to chime in my support for getting this fixed. I wish I'd
research the issue more thoroughly because I just spent many hours trying to
troubleshoot this.

I have the essentially the same setup as BetaBet and when I try to Sync
OneNote tells me that WebDAV is not supported on the share (but it clearly is
as I'm using it from other applications).

Is there somewhere I should file a bug or a support ticket in order to give
more visibility into the fact that this bug is a popular one?
