Need Calendar Help

I've been challenged with both combining MSP schedules from 2 locations where
the hours and holiday's are not the same into one schedule as well as
changing work hours (daily finish time and hours/day) on existing schedules.
I recognize that there are project calendars, task calendars, and resource
calendars, but the information that I have on them (including the Help in
MSP) has thus far not been sufficient to let me accomplish either task. I
get unexpected results. Often I can figure out what MSP did, but not how to
adjust it to get the desired result.

Can anyone recommend a book or article or just a really good explanation or
series of rules of thumb (anything!) regarding calendars and how they can be
manipulated to yield the desired results AFTER MSP schedules are in use and
being tracked?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

I recently had the same problem and had to "force" the issue of calendars to
deal with importing data from a project file and discovering that MSP was
recalculating dates based on the work calendar. What I did (with my
customer's approval) was establish a rule wherein I manually set the work
week to be seven days a week 24 hours a day. I reset the calendar in all of
my files, including the master schedule that I kept importing data into. The
tasks that I was tracking often included weekend work (office moves) so I had
to make Saturdays and Sundays "working days". Note that I am not doing
resource loading (yet) so it isn't a problem to have a 24/7 working time.
This fix at least kept me from being surprised when I cut/paste dates from
one schedule into another. Hope this helps.
