Need help getting information from a live range

I hope somebody can help - In this case I am trying to dump data in an
have Excel automatically format it into a report.

I'm stuck -

1st - I dump data in.
Then, I use Vlookup to associate the data with a sort criteria - e.g.
If this number matches this number, return the closest 3 colums.

Now I've got the resulting database (a series of vlookup formulas).
need to sort it and subtotal it. I can't sort the information becaus
it's simply formulas, I don't want to copy and past as values becaus
the information will be changing all the time.

I need to sort by 1's, then sobtotal those (and since I want it t
automatically generate a report, I want the associated information
eg. the field of cells associated with "1".

I've tried the pivot table, but it's not working well.

you may post some example rows of your data and describe your expected
result based on this example (example in plain text - no attachment
please)

Dawn,

Have you considered making a copy of the worksheet (Edit>Move or Copy Sheet...),
then Copy/Paste Special on the copied sheet, sort, subtotal etc., and then just
discard the copied sheet. Most of this can probably be automated if you record
a macro.
