Get Open Office 1.1 (free).

Use OO to open the Word file and save it as a pdf.

Dear Experts,

I have a document that I would like to email
to a number of people, in read only form.

What is a cheap or free PDF document writer that I
could use to convert MS Word files?

Also, if I write to PDF, is there any way that
someone could modify the information, say, with
Acrobat Writer?

Thanks

That will only work if you find the MSWord import in Oo_Org acceptable.
There are plenty of free or shareware PDF convertors out there that don't
need to bash the document about into another program first.
Try www.pdf995.com, www.docu-track.com, or a Google search on "GhostScript"
and "GhostView"

We're looking for a way to convert a document in
publisher 2000 to a pdf format. We've got Adobe standard
6.0.
Thanks in advance for any help.

If you have Acrobat Distiller, I don't see what the problem is.

You first print to the distiller to make a postscript file. then you distill
it. make sure you have the proper distiller settings for the type of pdf you
want.

Don,

I think there is also a DTP program that comes with built-in pdf
generation that includes the ability to keep working web links in it, as
well as impose for printing or impose for viewing. One can also set
security in it so that the pdf can be printed, copied or edited,
depending on the creator's whim.

Like you said, though, we all have our favorites. :)

Don,

No, you were spot on in understanding the heading. I guess I should have
stated that cutting and pasting would be necessary in order to get the
info from the Pub file output as a pdf. But as you stated, us old folks
can remember when we walked to schools in those winter snowfalls with
barbed wire on our shoes to give ust traction, but have problems
remembering what was typed moments before.

Not only that, but I just had the first "morsel" and I do mean bite of
food since Friday evening, and it was a just a sliver of steak. Some
kind of a nasty virus, my temps varied 5 degrees from last night to this
morning (though I suspect something must be wrong with this state of the
art thermometer), from 100.5 to 95.5.

Mea Culpa - I'll strive to be more comprehensive in posts, though
because this is a MS NG, not precise!

Regards,

Mike
