Need to import Outlook 2001 mail to Entourage

M

misterman

I had outlook 2001 at work and backed up my mail folders
when I left. I want to emport them into entourage but I can't.

I tried downloading outlook 2001 to export the folders but
I can't hook up to an outlook mail server so it won't even
start the program.

Entourage doesn't recognize the file so I'm stuck.

Help? Anyone?

Much appreciated

Hi Jae!

If you've saved your information into .pst files, then Outlook is the only
application that can read them and make any sense of them. As you've
discovered, Entourage can't read them.

The MVP Entourage FAQ at http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faq/faqs.html may be
of use to you for trying to get back your information.

Hope this helps! bill

We need to configure a working profile without access to
an Exchange server. Then we can open PST files and
export them. How can we make a profile without
connecting to an exchange server than is no longer
available?

Thanks.

Hi James!

By default Outlook 2001 sets up a few services at installation. One of these
services is to connect to Exchange.

You can take either an existing or new installation of Outlook and remove
the pre-configured Exchange server service using the Outlook Settings
application found in the Outlook 2001 folder.

With the Exchange server service gone and with the Personal Folders service
(your .pst file) present, you'll be able to launch Outlook 2001 and you
won't be prompted to log in. You should just open directly to your Personal
Folders.

There's a gotcha, however. Outlook 2001 does not have an export utility to
export your messages. You can copy, paste and print the information, but you
can't save it into a non-Outlook format. Unfortunately, Outlook 2001 isn't
very Applescriptable either.

Hope this helps! bill
